429 North 4th Avenue # 5, Tucson, AZ 85705
Tucson, Arizona is packed with great restaurants and bars but one of the premier Latin restaurants in the area lies on 4th Avenue just south of 6th St. Maya Quetzal features signature dishes from the Yucatan and Central America with ingredients so fresh, you can taste the tropics right in them.
They feature options for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike, but just because you’re a carnivore at heart does not mean you should pass up the Plato Vegetariano as its got tons of delicious, cheesy goodness and a variety of different things.
They’re famous for their mole sauce and their thick, homemade tortillas are to die for. If you’ve never tried Guatemalan food before, you’re in for a treat. On a superficial level, the food looks very similar to Mexican style cuisine but the flavors are so different.
So many of the dishes here are flavored with spices you don’t find in many other foods as well as fresh herbs like mint which bring the flavor to a whole new level.
The prices down at Maya Quetzal are great, with each entree being $10 and under and you can always count on friendly, personal service from your server. The place is small, seating only about 50 patrons, but the owner and staff will be more than happy to try and accommodate you any way they can.
If you love trying new and ethnic cuisines, give Maya Quetzal a shot. I promise you that you won’t regret it and you might even discover your new favorite place to eat out in the process.
